LGBT Economic Advancement in Virginia

| By Andy DiAntonio

Since Governor Terry McAuliffe signed his first Executive Order banning discrimination against LGBT state employees, Virginia has become a much more welcoming state for its LGBT residents. Last year, Virginia achieved marriage equality after Governor McAuliffe and Attorney General Mark Herring refused to defend the state’s ban on same-sex marriage.

The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce® (NGLCC) stands with its three Virginia local affiliate chambers, the Capital Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CAGLCC), Richmond Business Alliance (RBA), and Hampton Roads Business OutReach (HRBOR) in promoting economic advancement for the LGBT business community. Now is the perfect time for LGBT owned businesses to explore the strategic growth opportunities available through LGBT Business Enterprise® (LGBTBE®) certification.

Leverage your LGBTBE certification and local affiliate chamber membership to:
  • Get access to NGLCC’s Corporate Partners,
  • Connect and build relationships with fellow LGBTBEs, corporate partners, and organizational allies for sourcing opportunities,
  • Participate in NGLCC’s continuing education programs, including teleconferences, webinars, and in-person seminars on business development topics sponsored or presented by corporate partners and organizational allies.
NGLCC will waive the application fees for any member of these three local affiliate chambers and advocate aggressively in partnership with our local chambers to support the growth of every LGBT owned business in Virginia. NGLCC works closely with its affiliate chambers to make sure that LGBT owned businesses are able to connect and build relationships with other LGBTBEs® through affiliate led roundtables and educational programming brought by NGLCC.
