Washington, DCNGLCC Global, the international division of the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), will join the Organization of American States (OAS) Department of Social Inclusion and the IACHR LGBTI Rapporteurship to formally sign a landmark agreement to begin a research partnership to measure and analyze the socioeconomic impacts of discrimination facing LGBTI people in Latin America and the Caribbean. The first of its kind, this agreement will establish the framework for conducting this much-needed research, the results of which will be released at a later date.

“This is an exciting step toward addressing the immense knowledge & data gaps in understanding the economic and social barriers of LGBTI people in the region,” said NGLCC Global Director, Phil Crehan. “Throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, there are testimonies of violence, discrimination, and even success for LGBTI people, but what’s missing from these stories are the numbers to show the extent of the problem, as well as the numbers to show the extent of their contributions. We’re thrilled that the OAS and IACHR have joined NGLCC Global to address the knowledge gaps which stymie  the progress of the LGBTI community.”

In addition to the signing of this historic partnership agreement, the signing ceremony will feature remarks by the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, and NGLCC Co-Founder & President, Justin Nelson.

“Our NGLCC Global team has built relationships with 14 affiliate chambers which represent close to 30 countries across the globe and collectively speak for an often over-looked community: the global LGBTI business community,” said Nelson. “Although this research partnership agreement is the first of its kind for NGLCC Global’s ongoing work, we are confident it will not be the last as we continue to grow and expand our work to better understand the global economic impact of LGBTI people.”

The signing ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 19, at 1:00 PM EST at the Organization of American States headquarters in Washington, DC. Members of the press are welcome to attend with prior notice.
