Social Driver: Take-Out to Help Out

| By Sarah Jester

In challenging times, the LGBT business community knows how to come together. The strength and giving spirit of our chosen family and like-minded business network is what propels us forward.  Social Driver, digital agency extraordinaire and NGLCC’s 2015 Supplier of the Year, is one of the outstanding LGBT-owned companies leading the charge to give back to members of the LGBT community in need during COVID-19.

Headquartered in Washington, DC, with offices in four other major cities and over 250 clients, Social Driver is a far-spanning digital agency.  They specialize in creating websites, digital marketing, social media, and content campaigns to help their clients connect with their audiences. Now, Social Driver is taking significant steps to support the LGBTQ community.

“The LGBT business community has been tremendously helpful to us, going back to when we joined the Equality Chamber in Washington, DC and Thomas was named Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010,” co-founder Anthony Shop said. “Since then, we've met countless friends, mentors, future employees and future clients through NGLCC.”

Shop explained that the Driver Foundation was launched several years ago as Social Driver’s philanthropic initiative. The Driver Foundation’s newest campaign, called Take-Out to Help Out, focuses on at-risk LGBTQ+ youth in Washington, DC.

“We are purchasing meals from LGBTQ-owned businesses that have been affected by the economic effects of the pandemic, and providing to nonprofit organizations that serve LGBTQ+ youth at risk of homelessness,” he said.

The quickly growing Take-Out to Help Out campaign’s first nonprofit partner is SMYAL.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, the communities we care about need support like never before, especially small businesses and marginalized communities,” Shop explained. “This program has a double benefit by generating revenue for small businesses and by serving vulnerable individuals and showing them there are people who care about their well-being.”
