Patrick J. O’Keeffe

Senior Vice President of People, American Airlines

Patrick O’Keeffe was named senior vice president – people in June 2017.  In this role, he is responsible for all aspects of traditional HR functions - recruiting, onboarding, diversity and inclusion, total rewards (comp, STI, LTI, 401K, pension and travel), performance management, leadership development and talent management.  His team also oversees benefits and wellness programs and supports business units through People business partners.

Prior to this role, Patrick was VP, information technology services. In this position, he was responsible for an industry-leading integration of the passenger services system as well as the corporate technology teams for revenue management, network planning, operations research, alliances, regionals, human resources, payroll and finance.

Patrick previously was vice president, airline operations technology and was responsible for the development and implementation of technology for a wide range of operating groups including flight, onboard service, IOC and tech ops.  Prior to this, Patrick served as vice president of business and operations systems with responsibility for multiple operating groups including cargo, employee technology and enterprise infrastructure.

With more than 28 years of experience at American, Patrick joined the airline early in his career in the marketing planning department, and quickly took on several leadership roles in a wide range of business departments including passenger sales, customer research, onboard service, food and beverage and duty free.  After 17 years of experience in the business side of American, he moved to the IT team in 2005 with roles in customer technology and revenue and planning technology.

Patrick holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Limerick University and completed his Master of Business Administration at Rice University. Today he and his partner, Frankie, reside in Dallas, Texas. He is an executive sponsor for PRIDE – American’s Employee Business Resource Group for gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender employees.  He is also active in community organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign and serves on the Board of Directors for the American Airlines Credit Union.
