No summer in DC is complete without the incredible migration of interns to our nation’s capital. NGLCC continues to develop a robust and engaging experience during a three-month comprehensive summer internship. Internship responsibilities are fully integrated into the work the NGLCC accomplishes, which means that interns are highly valued as members of the NGLCC team. Working alongside their direct supervisors, summer interns have the opportunity to offer insight on projects, gain experience working with a nonprofit organization, and develop a new social network with peers from around the world! This summer’s team is essential as NGLCC continues planning its biggest conference yet with more Corporate Partners, Certified LGBTBE® companies, and International Affiliate Chambers than ever before. Janine Ivy is an Affiliate Relations and External Affairs intern with the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). Janine, a rising sophomore at Claremont McKenna College, has a long-standing interest in government and policy, which lead her to pursue this amazing opportunity. While at school, Janine studies International Relations with a minor in English. Her internship involves helping reach the NGLCC’s policy objectives and corresponding with the NGLCC’s affiliate chambers of commerce across the nation. She is looking forward to being a part of the vibrant and caring community at the NGLCC.
Sean Finn is an Affiliate Relations and External Affairs intern with the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) from the University of Iowa. He is a sophomore studying Economics and Ethics & Public Policy. Sean is particularly interested in social justice issues, specifically trans issues, and is an advocate and activist on his campus for oppressed communities. He hopes to use the experiences he will gain with this summer, and extend his advocacy in the future by becoming involved with public policy.
Elizabeth Thorne is the Supplier Diversity Initiative intern for the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). She is a rising sophomore at American University in Washington, DC, pursuing a double major in International Studies and Economics, with a minor is Japanese Language. She is looking forward to helping the Supplier Diversity team certify and manage the Certified LGBTBE® companies affiliated with the NGLCC. As someone who believes in mixing passion and vocation, she is thrilled at the opportunity to work with the NGLCC, implementing the ideas of LGBT economic empowerment.
Taylor Wright is the Meetings and Education intern for the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). Hailing from Winter Park, FL, he is a Vocal Performance and Piano student at Rollins College. Taylor, a member of Rollins’ LGBT-advocacy fellowship, is hoping to take what he’s learning at the NGLCC and bring it to the Rollins Campus in the form of a “give back” program next fall in order to facilitate awareness, and further education and discussion about LGBTQ issues. Taylor is incredibly excited to contribute to the planning and management of the 2015 NGLCC International Business & Leadership Conference in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and would like to thank the NGLCC staff for allowing him this opportunity.
Garrett Masser is the Corporate Relations intern this summer with the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). As a Politics and Business student at American University, Garrett, originally from Nashville, TN, is proud to call Washington his new home. In the Corporate Relations department, Garret will gain valuable experience connecting Corporate Partners with suppliers, and ensuring that they have an optimum experience working with the NGLCC. He is excited and proud to have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of our nation’s gay and lesbian business leaders.
Freja Ingelstam will be working with the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) this summer as the Global Programs Intern. Originally from Stockholm, Sweden, Freja studies International Relations and History with an emphasis on U.S. Foreign Policy and Relations at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. Freja is also thankful to participate in her college’s NCAA DII Swimming program. She is sure that working to establish affiliate chambers of commerce abroad will make this internship a rewarding experience. In the future, Freja hopes to travel extensively, and to continue working with human rights issues internationally.
