Meet the 2018 Supplier of the Year: Heels & Hardhats Contracting

Jackie and Cyndi Richter founded Heels & Hardhats Contracting in 2010, after struggling to find work in construction and contracting after Jackie’s transition. By overcoming discrimination to found a successful business, Heels & Hardhats Contracting is a shining example of a successful Certified LGBTBE® and a business that has been able to weave diversity and inclusion into the foundation of their business model.

Heels & Hardhats Contracting began when Jackie transitioned and started to struggle to find work in the construction community. She struck out on her own with the support of her wife Cyndi, then a nurse, to found Heels & Hardhats Contracting. Through connections and mentorship opportunities with industry partners, the two-person company grew to the successful business Heels & Hardhats Contracting has become today.

Jackie’s perseverance to grow her own business has allowed her to become a mentor in the LGBT business community herself. She is a frequent speaker and often trains emerging contractors and suppliers. Jackie is also an active participant in the NGLCC Construction Industry Council and attended the council’s very first meeting.

Through her perseverance and commitment to mentorship, Jackie exemplifies how a Certified LGBTBE® can flourish when it embraces diversity, inclusion, mentorship, and engaging with one’s community. Congratulations Jackie, Cyndi, and Heels & Hardhats Contracting!
