1. What is PrintSolutions, Inc.?

We are design, print and mailing experts. We have in-house designers and production managers that can help facilitate any print and mailing projects. Our concentration is direct mail, trigger orientated programs. We have a full-service print and mail facility that can print digital, sheetfed and web. Our presses are equipped to print up to 12 colors with in-line UV options. Our mailing capabilities are inkjet, laser, high variable personalization, match-mailing, affixing. We offer custom fulfillment. Whether you ship in promos or we provide, we do the back-end fulfillment and mailing. We do not have cookie cutter programs. Everything we do is custom.

2. What were you doing before you founded your business?

I was an SVP Production Manager in a major ad agency in Chicago for 18 years.

3. How did you get the concept or idea for your business?

I wanted to provide clients with a different approach to their business. I am all for cost savings. I hated the idea of agencies nickel-and-diming client and the way agencies treated their clients. It was all about the money and what can be billed. I wanted to offer them up something different. Our concept is opposite. The more you save, the more clients reinvest in new programs with you.

4. What makes your business stand out when compared to other businesses in your field?

We do everything in-house. If we need a piece of equipment, we will look to purchase it if it makes sense. We have in-house creative. We do not charge for any creative changes, whether we do the creative or the creative is supplied. We offer free storage of materials and ship out upon request. We analyze all mail files when they come in to determine if we can provide additional postal cost-savings. We provide custom reporting to clients. We do not markup freight or postage, those are pass-through items. We do not have a sales staff. All our clients are word of mouth. These are all things no one else is doing. We wanted to be different. We like saving client’s money. It makes us happy because it makes them happy. In doing so, they do more. Our motto is no project is too small or too large. We have the equipment to support all.

5. What are your goals for your business and where do you hope to see your business in one, five, ten years?

We met our goals in the first year of business. As a company, we are exactly where we want to be. We found a sweet spot that no one is doing. We like what we do and what we can offer our clients. We are not in this to be millionaires. We just love doing what we are doing and making our clients happy.

6. How has being a Certified LGBTBE® though NGLCC impacted your business?

We have made a lot of great connections by attending the National Conference. When we tell people we are WBENC and NGLCC certified, they light up. Having two certifications seems to be good for networking and creating relationships, and we really value the connections, relationships, and friendships that we have developed through NGLCC.

7. What advice would you give to an LGBT person starting a business?

Keep grinding. We as a group are in a good position with the world. More and more individuals accept us and pull for us to succeed. Make as many friends and create as many relationships as possible. Be genuine. Most people relate to authentic rather than the fluff. Be yourself. Attend as many events as possible and network. If someone cannot use your services, chances are they know someone who can. If someone likes you, they will find a fit.
