Statement from NGLCC Co-Founders Justin Nelson & Chance Mitchell:
The National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, in solidarity with the network of affiliate chambers in over a dozen nations represented by the NGLCC Global program, celebrates President Joe Biden’s presidential memorandum aimed at expanding protection of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) people worldwide, including potentially through the use of financial sanctions. This historic commitment further cements the Biden-Harris Administration as the most diverse and most pro-LGBTQ in American history—which were among the many reasons for NGLCC’s endorsement of their campaign in 2020.
The new Administration’s commitment to advance human rights of LGBTQI persons abroad reinforces NGLCC Global Division’s mission to promote inclusive economic growth for the LGBTQI business community in parts of the world where discrimination, violence, and stigma continue to limit their ability to thrive financially.
As the world slowly prepares for a post-COVID 19 economic recovery, NGLCC will continue to support the work of our international affiliates while paying close attention to ongoing human rights violations and socioeconomic challenges that LGBTQI persons and business owners face worldwide.
Under the new Administration, NGLCC looks forward to continuing its role as a trusted convener, brignning together stakeholders from the international corporate sector, US government agencies abroad, and our international affiliates join efforts to pursue the protection of LGBTQI rights through an economic empowerment lens globally.
