Washington, D.C. (02/13/13) — The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) was heartened by the strong plan for growing our economy delivered by President Obama in last night’s State of the Union address. We applaud President Obama for calling on Congress to increase innovative tools and explore commonsense tax reform to fuel the small business engine of our continued economic recovery.

Growing business begins with harboring ideas. By asking for 15 manufacturing innovation institutes, President Obama is setting the stage to share how manufactures and entrepreneurs can bring jobs home and create good paying positions right here in America. NGLCC works with small business owners through our Supplier Innovation Center to improve infrastructure and spur growth. Our goal is one in the same: Provide tools for small businesses to create jobs.

In addition to President Obama’s focus on nuts and bolts solutions to spur the economy, we were delighted to hear of the president’s commitment to bring benefits equity to LGBT military families. NGLCC also strongly supports the president’s call for comprehensive immigration reform, and we urge Congress to work with the president to ensure that any final bill signed into law is inclusive of bi-national LGBT couples. Human rights cannot take a backseat to partisan politics.
