NGLCC Proudly Stands by President Obama in Support of Out US Ambassador to Dominican Republic

March 23, 2016

Washington, DC – The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), the business voice of the global LGBT community, affirms its support of openly gay Ambassador to the Dominican Republic James “Wally” Brewster.  Ambassador Brewster continues to be a dedicated and loyal representative of the American people, and an essential example of the Obama Administration’s commitments to diversity and inclusion at all levels of government.

NGLCC condemns the scurrilous and malicious attacks on a public servant who has been both unanimously confirmed by the Senate, and quickly recognized and welcomed by the Dominican government.

“Economic visibility, just like social visibility, is essential in building a diverse and inclusive society, and Ambassador Brewster has been invaluable in helping NGLCC establish our Dominican Republic affiliate chamber which promotes such visibility for the Dominican LGBT business community,” said NGLCC Co-Founder and President Justin Nelson.  “America is fortunate to have someone as qualified and respected as Ambassador Brewster advocating for the economic inclusion of the Dominican Republic’s LGBT people and for American business interests in the region.”

Over 95% of the world’s consumers and businesses exist outside the borders of the United States, and the American LGBT business community has both a vested fiscal and humanitarian interest in supporting LGBT inclusion and equal rights for communities around the globe.  NGLCC is proud to stand with our government and corporate partners as we support and defend Ambassador Brewster’s record and character as a visible leader in the fight for such intentional inclusion.

“Out public servants like Ambassador Brewster are powerful forces in NGLCC Global’s effort to coalesce and create LGBT and allied business communities in other countries—now totaling nearly a dozen global affiliates,” says NGLCC Co-Founder and CEO Chance Mitchell.  “What some would wrongfully call promoting an agenda, the NGLCC and its allies proudly defend as promoting opportunities that shape the most inclusive and successful climate for all citizens to thrive.  Regardless of personal feelings about the LGBT community, the proven economic benefits of empowering LGBT entrepreneurs are nearly impossible to deny.”
