NGLCC Statement on Nomination of Linda McMahon to Lead U.S. Small Business Administration

December 9, 2016

Washington, D.C. – Justin Nelson, Co-Founder & President, and Chance Mitchell, Co-Founder and CEO, of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) released the following statement today on the nomination of Linda McMahon:

“The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, the business voice of the LGBT community, looks forward to gaining additional insights about Linda McMahon, President-Elect Trump’s nominee to head the U.S. Small Business Administration. While we appreciate her previous positions in support of marriage equality, the Employment Non Discrimination Act, and repealing of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” we hope to learn more up to and during her confirmation hearing regarding her plans for fully inclusive SBA policies that benefit America’s estimated 1.4 million LGBT business owners.”

The NGLCC and SBA signed a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding in 2012. Innovative programs fostered by NGLCC and the SBA, such as the LGBT Business Builder national tour, resulted in increased access to education, funding, and certification opportunities for LGBT business owners. 2016 featured multiple high-profile achievements by NGLCC certified LGBT Business Enterprise® (LGBTBE®) companies, including Equator Coffee & Teas named as SBA’s National Small Business of the Year, the first ever win by an LGBT-owned business.
