Statement by Co-Founders Justin G. Nelson and Chance Mitchell

Washington, D.C. (05/02/13) –The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) enthusiastically supports today’s nominations of Penny Pritzker as the next U.S. Secretary of Commerce and Michael Froman as the U.S. Trade Representative.

As a highly successful businesswoman, Designee Pritzker is the perfect choice to become our next Secretary of Commerce. We look forward to working with Ms. Pritzker on strengthening our memorandum of understanding with the Department of Commerce and ensuing LGBT business owners take full advantage of all the programs designed to help America’s businesses succeed here at home and abroad.

Ensuring LGBT firms can adequately compete for commerce procurement contracts and economic development are essential to our work with the Department. We look forward to working together on the President’s National Export Initiative and educating the LGBT business community about the many resources for exporting to the 95 percent of the world’s consumers that live outside the United States.

We also look forward to working with Designee Froman. In his current role as Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics, Mr. Froman has a keen understanding of the nuances and opportunities of the global economy.  As NGLCC works on our international expansion and opening new markets for LGBT businesses to export products and services we look forward to a strong relationship with the newU.S. Trade Representative and his office.
